Shellharbour is the fastest growing area on the eastern seaboard of NSW and health services need to keep up to date with this population – and ageing population – growth. As a result, Shellharbour Hospital will receive a major upgrade.
The re-developed hospital is set to become a major metropolitan hospital which will provide a comprehensive range of services to the Southern Illawarra region.
The $251 million redevelopment will expand emergency department capacity, double the operating theatre size, add an intensive care unit and provide for increased acute inpatient, surgical, aged care and rehabilitation beds, as well as expanded outpatient and primary/community health services.
